Fans of Batman’s large, green, and scaly nemesis who were bummed by his lack of screentime in Arkham City will be delighted to hear that not only is he showing up in NetherRealm Studios’ upcoming DC brawler Injustice: Gods Among Us, he’s also a playable character.
NetherRealm creative director Ed Boon confirmed Killer Croc’s addition to the game’s roster with the above screenshot. Eagle-eyed readers will no-doubt spot fellow Gotham Rogue’s Gallery alums Riddler and Penguin in the background but Boon wouldn’t reveal whether or not they too will be playable characters (my guess is they’re just part of that particular level’s background scenery).
Boon also wasn’t willing to share any more details regarding Killer Croc aside from the above screenshot but I think it’d be safe to assume Croc’s combat style will focus heavily on brute strength and power. The screenshot also makes it pretty plain that NetherRealm borrowed heavily from Rocksteady’s Arkham games when it came to designing both Croc and his background buddies Riddler and Penguin.
As the roster for Injustice continues to grow, it would seem members of Batman’s mythos are taking up a fair number of spots (besides Croc, there’s also Joker, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Nightwing, and the Dark Knight himself). As thrilled as fans of the Arkham games and Batman in general no doubt are, here’s hoping Boon and NetherRealm don’t rely too heavily on the Caped Crusader and Co. Otherwise they might as well change the game’s name to Injustice: Batman Saves The Day Again…Oh And Some Other Dudes Show Up But Don’t Worry About Them…
