Early entrants into the online version of Los Santos ran the risk of losing rank and money earnings, purchased items and locations, or even entire characters. Rockstar was looking into the matter in the hopes of restoring lost information to players in the wake of Grand Theft Auto Online’s launch and troubles, but have now announced there is no way to restore this progress.
In an announcement on their support section for Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online, Rockstar Games stated, “For those asking about their lost characters or rank, those will not be able to be restored[.]” As recompense, all players who have played or do play the game in October of 2013 will receive a “stimulus package” of $500,000 in-game. This stimulus is being deposited in the form of two separate $250,000 credits in player accounts at some point before the end of October.
Receipt of the stimulus demands a title update for the game which also fixes the issues leading to the stimulus handout in the first place. Specific timing for the handout has yet to be announced but will be posted at the Rockstar Newswire once everything is finalized. $500,000 may not be enough to sate some players who went completely full-force into Grand Theft Auto Online when it opened its doors on October 1st, but it’s refreshing to see a company admitting they screwed up and attempting to compensate players for their losses.
