Game development studios employ tons of talented people to make video games for us to enjoy. Some developers have created so many great games and experiences that their names are well known, even by casual gamers. There were lots of great studios that brought video games to life in 2013 and here is our winner for best studio and the results of the reader poll.
VGU’s Pick: Naughty Dog
Naughty Dog and Telltale fought a close battle for the hearts and minds of the VGU staff but in the end Naughty Dog prevailed because of its excellent title The Last of Us (which you will see in many other categories). Naughty Dog has given us some great gaming in the past, with the Uncharted series being a very recent favorite, but The Last of Us went in a whole new direction that focused not only on story and character development, but on a grittier tone than previous Naughty Dog games.
The studio has been revered as one of the best for years now and The Last of Us has further cemented Naughty Dog as a fan favorite every time it makes a game. Naughty Dog’s next endeavor will be the PlayStation 4 Uncharted game that was just teased recently and we can’t wait.
Reader’s Pick: Naughty Dog
Naughty Dog was the runaway winner of the reader’s poll with 50% of the vote. Crystal Dynamics (Tomb Raider) took second with 21.4% of the vote while Telltale Games (The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead: 400 Days) and Rockstar North (Grand Theft Auto V) tied for third with 14.3% of the vote each.
That’s it for the Best Studio category for 2013 but VGU’s end of the year awards are far from over. Check out the winners from the other categories now and come back on Monday for another set of categories including Game of the Year.
