Transformers Universe has finally re-emerged, but the game has apparently gone through some radical changes.
The game was first announced last year as a free-to-play MMO in the Transformers Universe. Players will be able to create their own unique Transformer and join the Autobots or Decepticons in order to battle it out with each other. Since the announcement Jagex Studios has been silent about the development. Yesterday they posted a press release on the website highlighting the coming beta, release dates, and the shift toward their self described “MOTA” gameplay.
“We’ve built a massively online, tactical action game, or MOTA,” Writes Mark Gerhard (CEO of Jagex) “Transformers Universe offers fast-paced, battle centric, tactical action with a selection of game modes for core gamers, casual gamers and Transformers enthusiasts alike.” Gerhard goes on to say that the closed beta will start soon and with it, a new trailer will be released. Transformers Universe is slated for release this summer, no platforms have been announced as of yet, but we assume it will be a PC only title. We’ve reached out to Jagex and Hasbro for comment.
