Lucasfilm and Disney have confirmed that Josh Trank will be the latest director to work on a stand-alone Star Wars movie.

News was released last month that Gareth Edwards and Gary Whitta will be working on one of the multiple spin-offs from the Star Wars universe, with this latest development of Trank’s involvement coming as no surprise.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Josh into the family,” says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX.”

Trank also commented on his involvement in the latest Star Wars film, stating: “The magic of the Star Wars Universe defined my entire childhood. The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time.”

Josh Trank’s made his directional debut with the critically acclaimed Chronicle in 2012, and he is also currently attached with 20th Century Fox’s The Fantastic Four.

Trank’s Star Wars film is yet to have an official release date.
